Slow Impressions

This project explores portraiture in a fantasy contemporary world in which the camera has not become an ubiquitous personal device. Asked to imagine this will be the only picture ever taken of them, the subjects take up formal poses that occupy a space of significance. The work is intended to reflect the style and quality of early portrait photography; shot with a large format camera, and printed onto toned paper. The aim is to transform a subject who could, in our age, be photographed many times daily, and inject the sense of urgency that comes with having that one chance to achieve the perfect, unique visual record of their life.
